Joint decision of the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee on the new dates for the Olympic Games

To continue to prioritize the safety of athletes, spectators and all other Games participants, IOC and Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has agreed that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo and the Paralympic Games, will be rescheduled: the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from 23 July to 8 August 2021, the Paralympic Games will be celebrated from 24 August until 5 September 2021. The Olympic flame will stay in Japan, as a symbol of commitment and hope. For these symbolic reasons, the name Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be kept. MONDO had already completed the installation of the Olympic and Paralympic track at the Tokyo Stadium in November 2019. The venue remains ready to host the next edition of the Games.
